Baghchal

Baghchal ("goat's move") is a traditional two-player strategy game from Nepal, played on a grid board with pieces representing four tigers and up to twenty goats. Tigers try to capture goats by jumping over them; goats try to trap the tigers so they can no longer move.

How it's played

  1. Two players take opposing sides: one controls four tigers, the other places and moves goats.
  2. Tigers capture goats by jumping over them into an empty space, the way pieces are captured in draughts.
  3. Goats win by surrounding the tigers so none of them have a legal move left.
  4. Tigers win once they've captured enough goats that a trap is no longer possible.
  5. Playable right now against the computer — pick a side above the board and tap a point to place or move a piece.
